Improved version of the 96 series, SMC’s CP96 series brings together pneumatic cylinders conforming to ISO 15552, available in six bores from 32 mm to 100 mm. A combined cushioning system, pneumatic and elastic, reduces end-of-stroke impact noise while shortening the cycle time.

Features :
Operation is based on a double-acting cylinder, available in a single-rod or through-rod version. The rod can take a threaded nut tightened up to a defined stop (PRT), and several mounting fixings are offered: standard mounting, bracket, front flange, rear flange, rear lug and rear clevis. The front end cap shape and the piston structure have been modified to reduce the overall weight compared with the previous C96 generation. A sensor groove is present on all four sides of the body, allowing the sensor to slide and be repositioned without dismantling, at both the front and rear of the cylinder.

The reference designation follows a coded structure: the prefix CP96S (or CP96SD for a version with integrated magnet) is followed by a mounting letter (B, L, F, G, C or D), the bore in millimetres, the stroke in millimetres, then a rod boot code, a rod code (single or through-rod W) and, where applicable, the sensor model and the number of units. This coding makes it possible to identify directly, from the reference, the exact configuration of the cylinder ordered.

Additional variants are also available, with double rod, anti-rotation system or through-rod, as well as several special versions concerning operating temperature, wiper resistance or the nature of the materials.

- Additional mass per 50 mm of stroke: from 0.14 kg (Ø 32) to 0.54 kg (Ø 100).
- Mass reduction compared with the previous generation: from 11 % to 15 % depending on the bore, comparison established on a 40 mm bore and a 100 mm stroke.

- ISO 15552: this international standard sets the interface and mounting dimensions of square-profile pneumatic cylinders, which guarantees interchangeability between cylinders from different brands complying with the same bore and the same stroke.
- RoHS: this European directive limits the use of certain hazardous substances in equipment, ensuring the cylinder's environmental compliance.
